Confession: I am a yarn hoarder.

I guess, as a knitter, it’s not that much of a confession, but I recently went through my stash and found many half-finished sweaters, frogged yarn with no project, and skeins that probably have not been touched since I purchased them. Sadly, my stash is no closer to organization than when it started. The worst part is I only have a sweaters worth of yarn in one yarn.

Back in 2013, I had dreams of making a sweater, so I purchased eight skeins of Fancy Tiger Craft’s Heirloom Romney in Elderberry, a deep grey/purple. I found the color so unique and the yarn so rustic and comfy. Below is the back of the sweater I even started! My big sweater plans never quite took off so the beautiful Elderberry Romney has resting deep in my stash.

Like the Heirloom Romney, I immediately fell in love with the relaxed fit and beautiful brioche lace rib in the Docklight sweater from BT Fall 14. It looks completely different from anything in my wardrobe and looks so cuddly as the weather gets colder in Philadelphia.

Since I don’t have the yarn for Riddari rather than my originally planned Strokkur, I decided to start with the Docklight for my 2015 sweater queue. I knit up a swatch a few months ago and got gauge for the body with a Addi Turbo US 6 (because sometimes brand matters.)

I am about 30% done with this sweater now. I got a little caught up in projects outside of knitting, but in the past few weeks I’ve been trying my hardest to get this sweater off the needles!

And I’m only two weeks late to wish everyone a Happy 2015!

Though I’m itching to get started, it seems I haven’t stopped since I got home from my trip to Colorado. I’ve been working on one project that seems to have slowed to a snail’s pace.

One of my goals this year is to try new yarns. Though I invest most of my money in Shibui and madelinetosh, I want to branch out to new yarns. Last year was my year of Brooklyn Tweed, but this year will be dedicated to trying new yarns and knitting from my ever growing stash.

During my Colorado visit, I was able to stop by Fancy Tiger Crafts— one of my favorite yarn and fabric stores– to grab some yarn I couldn’t find locally. My purchases were a couple skeins of Rauma’s 3-Ply Strikkegarn and Imperial Stock Ranch’s Columbia 2 Ply.  Last weekend, my friend Heather and I had our first visit to Hidden River Yarns in Manayunk, PA. I grabbed some Quince & Co’s Puffin and Lark heathers and Peace Fleece’s Worsted.

I can’t wait to get swatching and share some pictures! Any new yarn goals in your future?

Lately I’ve been craving sweaters. I have about 50 in my queue, and in my early days of knitting, I definitely tried to tackle them, but for various reasons (fit, not feeling confident, color, etc), I never finished my sweaters much less wore them. Since I have been knitting for eight years and I still have no sweaters to show, I have decided that 2015 will by my year of bigger projects specifically sweaters and blankets. Yahaira also agreed to knit several of these sweaters together for some fun KALs! I am hoping to knit six sweaters this year and here is my queue.

For my six sweaters, I chose three pullovers & three cardigans. I don’t wear a lot of RTW (Ready-To-Wear) pullovers, because I have found they are generally a little too short for me. With some shaping and torso lengthening, I would definitely wear a hand knit pullover. Below is my very hopeful schedule!

January-February – Strokkur by Ysolda Teague
Yarn: Ístex Létt-Lopi

Ysolda Teague's Strokkur

March-April – Docklight by Julie Hoover
Yarn: Fancy Tiger Craft’s Heirloom Romney

Julie Hoover's Docklight

May-June – Northdale by Gudrun Johnston
This will probably take longer, as it’s colorwork and in fingering weight, but I thought it would be a fun, longish project.
Yarn: Undecided

July-August – Pomme de Pin by Amy Christoffers
Yarn: Undecided

September-October – Arlo (Modified for Adult) by Michele Wang
Yarn: Undecided

November-December – Portage by Melissa Schaschwary
Yarn: Undecided

I’m extremely excited about this challenge! Next time I’ll post my additionally VERY hopeful blanket queue! What are your plans for 2015?
